Auditing is, at its core, an investigation. It is how organizations verify that the requirements of a contract, agreement, standard, or law are being followed.

Auditors are trained to evaluate evidence against defined requirements. In quality and manufacturing, they assess whether materials, processes, and finished products meet the appropriate standards. In finance, they verify that transactions and financial statements are recorded accurately, while examining risks and indicators that may not appear in the reported numbers.

Auditing can involve interviews, document requests, record reviews, observations, and on-site inspections.

For quality audits, the facility walkthrough remains essential. It allows an auditor to see where and how a product is made, observe actual working conditions, and identify issues that may never appear in a document.

Through [KeyPedia Labs](https://www.keypedia.com/media/introducing-keypedia-labs), KeyPedia is exploring how technology can strengthen this part of the audit.

## Beyond "AI Auditing"

The future of auditing is not simply AI revising documents or reviewing records inside a quality management system.

The more significant opportunity is to bring intelligence into the physical audit itself.

**The AR Auditor could take the form of Meta smart glasses, or another wearable system, capable of recording an audit and providing relevant requirements and context in real time.**

Imagine walking through a facility while wearing smart glasses. A controlled document has been left exposed on a desk. You do not notice it, but the system does.

It flags the document, surfaces the applicable requirement, prompts you to investigate, and adds the observation to a draft audit report for your review.

The technology does not replace the auditor or automatically turn every signal into a finding. It acts as a second set of eyes. The auditor still evaluates the context, verifies the evidence, and makes the final determination.

## When Will We See the AR Auditor?

We are close.

Many of the building blocks already exist, including cameras, microphones, smart glasses, digital audit platforms, and systems that can retrieve and interpret requirements.

The challenge is bringing them together with sufficient accuracy, speed, traceability, privacy, and security for use in real audit environments.

**KeyPedia is already working with auditors and users to test this technology using the KeyPedia data corpus.**

## Can I Book an AR Audit?

KeyPedia Labs is testing a range of AR devices, documenting their hardware and formatting limitations, and conducting field-deployment testing.

Organizations interested in participating in a pilot or evaluating an AR-supported audit can contact KeyPedia to discuss their requirements.

## How Much Will an AR Audit Cost?

Like any audit engagement, the cost depends on the scope, location, standards, facility, and level of preparation required.

Our deployment target is to reduce audit turnaround time by up to 80% and lower costs by at least 50% compared with comparable traditional audit engagements. Actual savings will depend on the audit and the maturity of the deployment.

The future of auditing is not a chatbot reading documents. It is a capable auditor, on site, supported by a system that can observe, retrieve, cross-reference, and document alongside them in real time.
