It's called the Annual Product Review in the US, the Product Quality Review outside it. Device manufacturers face a similar expectation through management review under ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820, though the annual review itself isn't spelled out in the regulation the way it is for drugs. Done well, it is one of the clearest early warning signals a quality system has. Done as a box-checking exercise, it is the kind of gap an investigator finds fast. Miss two years running on a product under inspection and the 483 more or less writes itself. It's not a rare finding, either.
