A History of Board of Pharmacy Records from the Regulatory Data Landscape

The worst came in 2012, when contaminated injections from the New England Compounding Center caused a fungal meningitis outbreak that reached more than 750 people in 20 states and killed 64 (CDC). Congress answered with the Drug Quality and Security Act of 2013, which created the 503B outsourcing facility: a compounder that registers with the FDA and operates under current good manufacturing practice requirements. State boards of pharmacy still license and inspect the pharmacies inside their borders, so a full compliance picture needs both the state rule and the federal record.
