Drug manufacturers, and the suppliers they depend on, are required to review each product's quality record at least once a year. Under 21 CFR 211.180(e), that review isn't optional. It's called the Annual Product Review in the US, the Product Quality Review outside it. Device manufacturers face a similar expectation through management review under ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820, though the annual review itself isn't spelled out in the regulation the way it is for drugs.

Done well, it is one of the clearest early warning signals a quality system has. Done as a box-checking exercise, it is the kind of gap an investigator finds fast. Miss two years running on a product under inspection and the 483 more or less writes itself. It's not a rare finding, either. A plain keyword search for "annual product" in KeyPedia turns up 3,031 US records on its own, EIRs and Form 483s from district offices across the country, with a search risk score of 70/100.

What your APR is missing

Your internal APR already covers your own batches, deviations, complaints, and stability data. What it usually lacks is the outside view. What regulators have flagged on the same product, at the same facility, across your suppliers, and on the same failure modes elsewhere in the industry.

That view exists. It is just scattered across nine agencies and nobody has time to assemble it by hand each year.

Three steps

1. Search the topic, not just a company. Search "Annual Product Review" alongside the CFR codes tied to it, starting with 211.180(e) and the rest of Subpart J. KeyPedia returns the enforcement and inspection record tied to that regulatory theme, across FDA, EMA, MHRA, ANVISA, NMPA, and Health Canada, 483s, warning letters, recalls, import alerts, and inspection classifications, for every company citing it.

2. Save the search and watch it move. A saved search becomes a tracked signal. Next year's APR isn't a fresh snapshot, it's the same query a year later, so you can see whether citations tied to this CFR code are climbing or falling across the industry.

3. Check Predictive for the top topics. Open Predictive and pull up the Actions Timeline for that same search. It gives you the industry-wide pattern before you write a word of your own review, and for Annual Product Review, that pattern has stayed elevated, holding in the 70-78% risk percentile since early 2025.

Why the outside view matters

It's about going beyond the point-in-time record, so while you can search for an annual product review, it's difficult to get the full understanding of the lifecycle of the correspondence. That is what the Keypedia data unlocks, allowing for defensible, realistic data.
