An FDA inspection of a feed mill revealed significant pest infestation and unsanitary conditions. Approximately 12 live rodents were observed in the feed mill, with four seen traveling between a ceiling support rail and a ceiling opening, one under a pallet of feed oats, one eating spilled product, two near basement stairs, and four on a corn pile in the basement. Nine dead rodents were found on the first floor near various animal feeds, including two near goat feed, one near trace mineral salt, and two near chicken feed. Four live birds were observed flying inside the first floor and resting on a ceiling support brace near a nest.
Further observations included approximately 17 live rodents, with one running into a bait box, one near horse feed, one going under pallets and jumping on product bags, two behind and under product, one running along a wall, and 11 in the basement. Three dead rodents were found, one in a floor crack near bentonite and two on the basement floor. Three live birds were observed flying above product and sitting on beams near a nest.
Evidence of rodent activity was found on product lots. One lot of 35 bags of Legends Show & Pleasure Textured Horse Feed (Lot # W9118) showed apparent rodent excreta pellets and/or fluorescing stains on eight of the bags, with a total of 44 pellets and five stains.
