FDA 483 - Gary Miller Farm - March 17, 2011

On March 17, 2011, FDA investigators Michael J. Mero and Margaret E. Di Gennaro conducted an inspection of Gary Miller Farm, a shell egg producer located at 214 6 Powells Valley Road, Halifax, PA 17032. The inspection revealed seven observations.

Firstly, the firm lacked a written SE prevention plan specific to the farm for producing eggs for the table market from July 9, 2010, to November 17, 2010. A plan was on file dated November 18, 2010. Secondly, the existing SE prevention plan was not fully implemented, with no monitoring for flies from July 9, 2010, to September 16, 2010, and no monitoring for rodents from June 30, 2010, to September 13, 2010.

Thirdly, stray animals were not prevented from entering poultry houses, evidenced by gaps in the roof eaves and a door with a 1/2-1 inch gap at the bottom. Fourthly, supervisory personnel failed to review refrigeration, rodent, and fly monitoring records from July 9, 2010, to March 17, 2011.
