FDA 483 - Luoma Egg Ranch, Inc. - April 20, 2011

On April 19-20, 2011, the FDA inspected Luoma Egg Ranch, Inc., an egg-producing facility located at 35705 State Highway 18, Finlayson, MN 55735-4277. The inspection, conducted by Consumer Safety Officers Amy L. McIntyre and Grant M. Ruis, revealed three observations.

Observation 1 noted that stray animals were not prevented from entering poultry houses. Specifically, on April 19, 2011, in House 24, two wild birds were seen flying over caged poultry, with one perching on cages and another roosting on a baffle. Bird droppings, not appearing to be chicken manure, were also observed. In House 32, four wild birds were seen flying over caged poultry, two perched on cages, and three on a baffle.

Observation 2 indicated that the poultry house environmental sampling plan was not appropriate for the poultry house layout. The SE plan identified a preferred sampling method, but five poultry houses had manure.

Observation 3 stated that the firm did not maintain records documenting compliance with environmental and egg sampling procedures. Specifically, SE environmental testing results for pullets and poultry did not identify the age of the flocks at the time of testing. The report was issued to Judy M. Luoma, President.
