FDA 483 - MarMEC Farming, LLC - May 31, 2011

On May 31, 2011, an FDA inspection of MarMEC Farming, LLC, a shell egg producer located at 4847 Iron Bridge Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268, revealed nine observations.

Observation 1 noted that stray animals were not prevented from entering poultry houses, with poor seals and gaps observed on manure pit doors, and wild birds seen inside the house.

Observation 2 indicated that appropriate methods were not used for fly control when monitoring showed unacceptable activity, with average fly counts exceeding thresholds on multiple dates in March and April 2011 without documented corrective actions.

Observation 3 stated that the pullet environment was not tested for *Salmonella Enteritidis* (SE) when pullets were 14 to 16 weeks of age, with testing occurring outside this timeframe.

Observation 4 found that environmental testing for SE was not done in a poultry house when laying hens were 40 to 45 weeks of age, with testing occurring outside the required timeframe.

Observation 5 highlighted the absence of a written SE prevention plan specific to the farm for shell egg production from July 9, 2010, through February 23, 2011.
