An FDA Form 483 was issued detailing observations from an inspection. The facility failed to store raw materials in a manner that protects against contamination. On March 23, 2011, uncovered trailers of raw in-shell peanuts, collected during a cleanout of Barn B, were stored outdoors and exposed to elements. Numerous birds were observed flying over and landing on these peanuts, with apparent bird excreta visible on some. Management indicated these peanuts would be processed into shelled peanuts.
Additionally, the facility failed to provide adequate screening or other protection against pests. From March 23-24, 2011, a plastic strip was missing from the strip door curtain at the north production warehouse dock door, approximately 20 feet from stored raw product. On March 23, three gaps were observed on the exit door on the southwest loading dock, approximately 6 feet from finished product: one 1/2" x 1" under the door, one 1/2" x 1" along the northwest portion, and one 1/4" x 1/2" along the northern side of the door frame. On March 24, two gaps were observed on the south dock door in the peanut butter cleaning room, approximately 12 feet from raw product: one 1/2" x 1' along the north side, and one 1/4" x 3' along the south side.
