FDA 483 - Valley Fresh Foods Inc - Briarwood Farms - May 18, 2011

During an inspection conducted from May 16-18, 2011, at Valley Fresh Foods, Inc., Briarwood Farms, located at 19210 Anderson, Rochester, WA 98579, the FDA observed issues related to pest control. The General Manager, Dr. Duane E. Olsen, D.V.M., was notified of these observations.

The primary observation, number 1, noted that potential harborages for pests had not been eliminated both inside and outside the poultry houses. Specifically, at Rainer Ranch, House #1, birds (swallows) were seen flying around and entering/exiting a hole in the upper exterior wall. At Glacier Ranch, Houses #1 and #2, swallows were observed flying around the exterior and entering/exiting the vent intake soffit overhangs. Nests were also found built on soffit support boards and in the corners of these vent soffits. These observations were made by Consumer Safety Officers Thomas C. McLean, Leon R. Marquart, and Lisa A. Carpenter, and the document was issued on May 18, 2011. The document emphasizes that these are inspectional observations and not a final Agency determination of compliance.
