The Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration (SMFDA) issued its 2017 Issue 7 Drug Supervision and Sampling Quality Announcement on November 24, 2017. This announcement detailed findings from quality supervision and sampling inspections conducted throughout 2017 on drug and pharmaceutical packaging material manufacturers, operators, and users in Shanghai. The inspections aimed to strengthen quality oversight, regulate market order, and ensure the safety of marketed drugs and packaging materials. The regulatory framework underpinning these inspections included the *Drug Administration Law of the People's Republic of China* and the 2015 Edition Chinese Pharmacopoeia. A total of 25 products from numerous companies, including Shanghai Huaying Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Shanghai Aikon Fine Chemical Co., Ltd., and various Traditional Chinese Medicine processing enterprises, were found to be non-compliant. Main violations spanned critical quality aspects such as incorrect properties, substandard processing, issues with content determination, presence of aflatoxin, residual solvent, and inappropriate moisture content. As a result, sampled units were required to immediately suspend sales and use of the affected products, initiate recalls, and implement rectification measures. The SMFDA committed to further strengthening follow-up inspections, urging local market supervision bureaus to enhance daily oversight, and compelling enterprises to investigate root causes, formulate corrective actions, and mitigate all potential risks.
