An announcement from the Shandong Provincial Food and Drug Administration, dated October 30, 2017, revealed significant compliance issues within the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) decoction piece sector. The regulatory body identified 31 batches of unqualified TCM decoction pieces produced by 22 different companies, including notable manufacturers such as Bozhou Haomen TCM Decoction Pieces Co., Ltd., Heze Jianmin TCM Decoction Pieces Co., Ltd., and Anguo Qiao TCM Decoction Pieces Co., Ltd. Specific products, including Bletilla striata and Pheretima aspergillum, were found to be substandard following comprehensive tests by various drug testing institutions.

In response to these findings, municipal food and drug administrations implemented immediate enforcement actions. These measures included sealing and seizing substandard drugs, suspending their sale, and mandating product recalls to safeguard public health. Furthermore, legal cases have been initiated against the implicated manufacturers and units responsible for the non-compliant samples.

The Shandong Provincial Food and Drug Administration has directed relevant municipal bureaus to enhance oversight of the non-compliant products and companies. These bureaus are responsible for ensuring that companies thoroughly investigate the root causes of the quality deficiencies, develop and implement effective corrective actions, and proactively mitigate any remaining risks associated with their products. This announcement underscores the provincial administration's dedication to maintaining product quality and safety within the TCM market.
