China NMPA Product Recall - Knee joint surgical tools

Biomet UK Limited initiated a voluntary global recall of certain batches of knee surgical instruments due to a potential component, alumina, in the raw material that could cause product breakage. This issue was reported by Zimmer Medical (Shanghai) International Trading Co., Ltd., the responsible unit in China. The recall document, published by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on February 24, 2017, with a report date of January 10, 2017, highlighted the manufacturer's proactive measure. Although the recall is global, Biomet UK Limited confirmed that the affected batches were not sold or distributed in China, and no related complaints have been received within the country. Consequently, no specific corrective actions are required for products within the Chinese market. The NMPA requested that all provincial and municipal food and drug administration departments strengthen their supervision and management of such medical devices, emphasizing continuous oversight of product safety within their jurisdiction.
