China NMPA Product Recall - Image archiving and transmission system

On May 8, 2015, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) announced a voluntary recall initiated by GE Healthcare for its image archiving and transmission system (Registration Certificate No.: CFDA (Imported) No. 20142702186). The recall, reported by GE Healthcare Trading Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., was prompted by unspecified "potential issues" identified with the medical device. While GE Healthcare is the manufacturer and initiator of this action, the company explicitly stated that the affected product was not sold or distributed within China. This regulatory action falls under the NMPA's purview for medical product oversight. In response, the NMPA has directed all provincial, autonomous region, and municipal food and drug administrations to enhance their management and supervision of similar medical devices. This measure aims to bolster product safety and ensure compliance with Chinese medical device regulations, despite the specific recalled batch not being available in the domestic market.
