China NMPA Product Recall - Patient monitors (models B450, B650, and B850)

The National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued an alert on May 29, 2015, regarding a product recall initiated by GE Healthcare Finland Oy. The recall involves specific patient monitor models B450, B650, and B850, distributed by GE Healthcare Systems Trade Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The primary concern identified is a critical safety malfunction where these monitors may fail to activate a crucial alarm indicating patient cardiac arrest. This poses a significant risk to patient safety, as the absence of such an alert could delay life-saving interventions. Under the NMPA's regulatory oversight, identified by Index No. JGXX-2015-10113, GE Healthcare Finland Oy has initiated a recall for the affected devices. The company has clarified that the recalled products were not distributed or sold within the Chinese market. In response to this safety issue, the NMPA has mandated that provincial, autonomous region, and municipal food and drug administrations enhance their supervision and management protocols for similar medical devices. This measure aims to reinforce product safety and ensure public health protection, even though the specific batch under recall was not sold domestically.
