China NMPA Product Recall - Medical cotton balls

Henan Xinpiaoan High-Tech Co., Ltd. initiated a voluntary Level III recall of its medical cotton balls, as reported on October 9, 2017, and published by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on December 16, 2019. The recall was prompted by national supervision and spot checks which revealed that multiple batches of their medical cotton balls failed to meet the critical requirements of the YZB/豫0257-2014 "Medical Cotton Balls" medical device registration product standard. Specifically, affected products included various sizes and batches: 9100 packs of small-sized cotton balls (batch number 002181201), 6200 packs of small-sized cotton balls (batch number 002181101), and 490 packs of medium-sized cotton balls (batch number 002181201). These products were distributed within China, primarily in Hubei Province, including Wuhan City. As a corrective action, the company issued recall notices to medical institutions. The reports indicate that all affected products across the specified batches had already been used up by the time of the recall notification or reporting, suggesting that the primary action was communication regarding non-conformance rather than physical product retrieval. This regulatory action underscores the importance of adhering to established medical device standards to ensure product safety and efficacy.
