China NMPA Product Recall - Infant incubator, multi-functional incubator, phototherapy equipment (trade name: Giraffe), baby warmer, baby radiant warmer

On February 15, 2017, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) announced a recall initiated by Ohmeda Medical, published through GE Healthcare Systems Trade Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Ohmeda Medical voluntarily recalled a range of infant medical devices, including various infant incubators, multifunctional incubators, Giraffe-branded phototherapy equipment, baby warmers, and baby radiant warmers. The critical issue identified was electrical hazards, specifically instances of fire, burning, smoke, or sparks at the connection point between the power cord and the wall socket, which could lead to heat damage. Although the manufacturer stated that the affected products had not been sold, the NMPA's regulatory framework prompted this action to uphold product safety. In response, food and drug administrations across all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities were instructed to enhance their supervision and management of similar medical products, reinforcing commitment to patient safety standards.
