China NMPA Product Recall - Blood glucose test strips

On September 22, 2014, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) publicized a voluntary Class III recall initiated by Sinocare Biosensor Co., Ltd. for specific blood glucose test strips. The recall, reported on September 19, 2014, stemmed from a critical product issue: potential damage to the test strips' moisture resistance. This defect could allow moisture to compromise the strips, leading to inaccurately elevated blood glucose readings, which are vital for reliable self-testing and diabetes screening. The affected products include batch number 2418NS, comprising 4576 boxes, with specific identification codes. Under the regulatory guidance of the NMPA and the Hunan Provincial Food and Drug Administration, Sinocare implemented several corrective actions. These included instructing distributors to immediately check inventory, isolate, and stop sales of the identified batch. The company also initiated a recall of these products from the market, published a consumer notice on its website (www.sinocare.com.cn), and committed to replacing affected test strips for consumers who contacted their customer service.
