China NMPA Product Recall - surgical lights

Stryker Communications initiated a voluntary recall of specific models of its Visum LED surgical lights, as reported by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on December 22, 2011. The recall, detailed by Stryker (Beijing) Medical Devices Co., Ltd. on December 15, 2011, addresses a potential structural issue where improper installation could lead to the lamp head detaching. While no incidents of detachment have been reported, and product testing indicates a negligible risk under normal usage, the company is proactively taking measures. This global recall impacts numerous regions, including Australia, Canada, China, and various European and Asian countries. The required action involves inspecting affected lights to confirm proper lamp holder installation. Any units found with looseness will undergo repair and retesting to ensure safety. For China, the recall is limited to four sample units, as no product sales were recorded in the country, thus no further extensive recall reports are planned for the Chinese market.
