China NMPA Product Recall - Multidimensional locking proximal humeral intramedullary nail system

The National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) announced a voluntary recall by Synthes GmbH for its Multi-Loc Locking Proximal Humeral Intramedullary Nail System, as of September 2013. The recall was initiated due to complaints regarding the deformation of the transverse hole of the MultiLoc screw, attributed to employees not adhering to established procedures. While the product is registered in China, the recall is an overseas action affecting regions such as Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Spain, Hungary, and Russia. Johnson & Johnson (Shanghai) Medical Devices Co., Ltd., the responsible unit, confirmed that the affected product batches were not imported into the Chinese market. Therefore, no direct recall measures are required domestically. However, the NMPA has directed provincial food and drug administrations to strengthen their supervision over similar products to ensure ongoing market vigilance and compliance with regulatory standards.
