Zimmer Medical (Shanghai) International Trading Co., Ltd. initiated a voluntary Class II recall for specific batches of metal intramedullary nail surgical instruments, specifically 4.3mm drill bits (CFDA (Imported) No. 20131105023), manufactured by Zimmer Inc. The recall stems from the discovery of a potential anomaly in raw materials, identified during an internal inspection by Zimmer Biomet. A subsequent supplier investigation confirmed that a specific batch of raw materials might contain defects, potentially on or below the surface, which could increase the risk of product breakage. While the recall is global, the report, dated May 29, 2017, notes that no adverse events or related complaints have been recorded domestically in China. All seven affected units imported into China have been returned to the manufacturer. This action, overseen by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), demonstrates a proactive measure by the company to mitigate potential safety risks associated with the identified material defect.
