FDA EIR - Perdue Farms Inc - August 11, 2025

An unannounced, comprehensive inspection of Perdue Foods, LLC's Cofield Feed Mill, an animal feed manufacturer, was conducted by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, under contract with the FDA, on August 5 and August 11, 2025. The inspection evaluated compliance with the North Carolina Commercial Feed Law of 1973 and FDA regulations, particularly concerning medicated feed manufacturing. The primary violations identified were failures to effectively implement preventive controls and to fully evaluate hazards. Specifically, the facility failed to consistently follow its Mycotoxin Risk Mitigation Program. Corn found to contain fumonisin levels significantly exceeding the company’s internal advisory limit (150 ppm versus 70 ppm) was processed and distributed without initiating required corrective actions. Additionally, the hazard analysis for "Liquid Concentrate," a processing aid, remained incomplete. These issues indicate a need for stricter adherence to established food safety plans and thorough hazard identification. Management acknowledged the findings, stating that mycotoxin results had not been reviewed in a timely manner. The firm committed to completing the hazard evaluation for the Liquid Concentrate. Required actions include ensuring the timely review of ingredient test results and consistently implementing corrective actions for out-of-specification materials, as well as fully evaluating all potential hazards associated with processing aids to maintain animal feed safety and regulatory compliance.
