FDA EIR - South Georgia Pecan Company - May 20, 2021

An FDA inspection of South Georgia Pecan Company, a nut processor in Valdosta, GA, was conducted from May 17-20, 2021. This visit served as a follow-up to a Class 1 Recall and a comprehensive assessment of the company's compliance with the modernized Food Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations (21 CFR 117) and Preventive Controls for Human Food. The inspection covered routine procedures including employee practices, sanitation, allergen control, and recall procedures. Notably, the inspection identified no significant objectionable conditions, and an FDA-483 (Inspectional Observations) was not issued. Two minor observations were verbally discussed with management: updating the glass control program to reflect the current number of magnets and repairing a cut-out area on the processing floor. Both issues were corrected on the same day they were raised. Additionally, a past violation from a 2018 inspection regarding inadequate controls for microorganism growth, allergen cross-contact, and contamination (specifically related to reprocessing floor sweepings) was reviewed and confirmed as corrected, with the firm having updated its reprocessing procedures. The inspection concluded without outstanding regulatory actions.
