FDA EIR - Unknown Company - April 29, 2014

An FDA inspection of Lordi Quesos, a foreign cheese manufacturer located in Los Yebenes, Spain, was conducted from April 28-29, 2014. This was an initial comprehensive surveillance inspection, carried out under FDA's Cheese and Cheese Products and Domestic Food Safety Programs. The inspection covered the firm's practices for manufacturing pasteurized cheeses, including raw milk handling, pasteurization, ripening, and packaging. During the inspection, three observations were noted on Form FDA-483. These included: plastic dividers in contact with cheese not being easily removable for cleaning, indicating a design issue hindering proper maintenance (21 CFR 110.40(a)); inadequate pest protection due to gaps in exterior doors (21 CFR 110.20(b)(7)); and insufficient lighting in the packaging area where two fluorescent lights were non-operational (21 CFR 110.20(b)(5)). Lordi Quesos management acknowledged the findings. They committed to correcting the equipment design issue within two to three weeks, addressing the pest entry points within two weeks, and repairing the lighting within 24 hours. Photographic evidence of these corrections was promised. Additionally, management agreed to incorporate FDA's Reportable Food Registry into their existing recall plan. The inspection did not involve any sample collection or encounter refusals.
