The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning letter to Bushman Organic Farms, Inc. on May 14, 2026, following inspections at their Calmar, Iowa facility conducted between August 2023 and March 2026. The inspections revealed that the company is in significant violation of the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) requirements established under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Specifically, the FDA found that the firm failed to develop and maintain an FSVP for several imported products, including organic soybean meal from multiple foreign suppliers. These programs are mandatory to ensure that imported food for humans or animals is produced in accordance with U.S. safety standards. Despite receiving a formal list of observations following the latest inspection, the company failed to provide a response. The FDA requires Bushman Organic Farms to submit a written explanation of corrective actions within 15 working days, including documentation such as completed verification records. Failure to comply may result in the FDA refusing entry of the company’s imports or placing their products on a detention list, which allows for the seizure of goods without physical examination.
