FDA WARNING_LETTER - Canna Pet LLC

The FDA issued a Warning Letter to Canna-Pet, LLC, regarding the marketing of their products: Canna-Pet for Cats, Canna-Pet for Dogs, Canna-Pet MaxCBD Capsules, and Canna-Biscuits for Dogs. The FDA reviewed the firm's product labeling and website (www.canna-pet.com) and determined these products are unapproved new animal drugs.

The products are deemed "drugs" under section 201(g)(1)(B) of the FD&C Act because their intended use, as evidenced by claims on the website and labeling, is for the mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease in animals. Examples of violative claims include "medical benefits" for arthritis, allergies, anxiety, cancer, seizures, and "Health Benefits of Cannabidiol (CBD) Canna-Pet" listing "Antitumor, Antiepileptic, Anticancer, Anti-inflammatory," and more.

As "new animal drugs" per section 201(v) of the FD&C Act, they are not generally recognized as safe and effective. To be legally marketed, new animal drugs require an approved new animal drug application, conditionally approved application, or index listing under sections 512, 571, and 572 of the FD&C Act. Canna-Pet's products lack such approval or listing, rendering them unsafe under section 512
