In 2016, the Jiangxi Provincial Food and Drug Administration conducted extensive supervision and spot checks on cosmetics, publishing findings on December 28, 2016, to enhance oversight and ensure product safety and efficacy. These inspections identified numerous substandard and counterfeit cosmetic products circulating in various retail outlets within Ganzhou City. Key violations involved the presence of prohibited and harmful substances in products from several manufacturers. Guangzhou Nuosheng Cosmetics Co., Ltd.'s 'L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Whitening and Nourishing Skin' and Guangzhou Luzi Cosmetics Co., Ltd.'s 'Golden Aloe Vera Acne Treatment Set' were found to contain Metronidazole. Additionally, Harbin Liangmei Cosmetics Co., Ltd.'s 'Liangfuwang Whitening and Freckle-Removing Facial Cleanser' and other similar products, along with Shanghai Tianxin Cosmetics Co., Ltd.'s 'Whitening and Freckle Removing Cream,' tested positive for dangerously high levels of Mercury. Many of these products deceptively claimed benefits such as whitening, freckle removal, and acne treatment. This regulatory action, part of the province's framework to manage cosmetics effectively, underscored the prevalence of unsafe ingredients and fraudulent products. The discovery of these counterfeit and adulterated items necessitates stringent follow-up, including their immediate removal from the market and potential enforcement actions against the responsible manufacturers and retailers to protect public health.
