China NMPA Product Recall - Dental implants

Zimmer Dental Inc. initiated a voluntary global recall of specific batches of its dental implants (Registration Certificate No.: CFDA (Imported) No. 20143631626 (Revised)) in July 2014. This action was prompted by a potential risk of cracking in the outer bottle cap of the affected products. Jiemei (Shanghai) Medical Device Co., Ltd., the local responsible unit for Zimmer, reported the recall to the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on July 28, 2014, following the manufacturer's initial report dated July 24, 2014. Despite the global scope of the recall, Zimmer Dental Inc. confirmed that the identified problematic batches (e.g., Model TSVT6B13, Batch Number 62284006) were not sold or imported into the Chinese market. Therefore, no direct corrective actions are required for products within China. However, under its regulatory framework, the NMPA requested that Food and Drug Administrations across all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities strengthen their supervision and management of similar dental implant products to ensure ongoing public safety and compliance.
