FDA EIR - Delta Air lines, Inc. - May 29, 2025

An unannounced FDA inspection of Delta Airlines, Inc. at JFK International Airport was conducted on May 20, 21, and 29, 2025. This surveillance inspection, performed under Compliance Program 7318.029 for Interstate Travel Conveyances and Support Facilities, focused on the airline's watering point, lavatory services, and aircraft conveyances.

The inspection identified three significant issues, documented on an FDA Form 483. These included: inadequate maintenance and operation of potable water servicing equipment, posing a risk of contamination to drinking and culinary water; insufficient sanitary facilities and operational practices in servicing areas, hindering the prevention of communicable disease spread; and a failure to maintain employee toilet and washroom facilities in a clean and sanitary condition. It's noteworthy that similar concerns were raised in a previous FDA inspection in February 2022, although Delta has since moved to a new terminal and no longer manages some lavatory waste facilities.

Delta Airlines management committed to correcting all identified observations. As a result, the inspection was classified as "Voluntary Action Indicated" (VAI), meaning the FDA expects the company to voluntarily address the deficiencies. A follow-up inspection is planned to verify these corrective measures and ensure compliance with public health standards.
