The inspection revealed that the company is producing and distributing unapproved, misbranded, and adulterated animal drugs in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

The FDA identified several significant violations regarding the firm’s compounding practices. Specifically, Meds For Vets was found to be compounding animal drugs from bulk substances for food-producing animals, which poses a risk of harmful residues in meat, eggs, or milk. The company also produced copies of commercially available, FDA-approved drugs and distributed large quantities of "office stock" medications without required patient-specific prescriptions.

Furthermore, the inspection highlighted serious manufacturing quality failures. The facility used inadequate equipment for sterile drug production, including household dishwashers and consumer-grade toaster ovens for cleaning and sterilization. The firm failed to validate its sterilization processes or conduct necessary testing to ensure products were sterile and maintained the correct potency. These deficiencies potentially expose animals to contaminated or ineffective medications.

The owner, Janice L. Erickson, is required to respond to the FDA within 15 working days. This response must detail the specific corrective actions taken to address these violations and provide documentation to ensure future compliance with federal safety and quality standards.
