Ching Jiang Fisheries Products, Inc. – FDA Warning Letter, Jun 24, 2013

On August 27, 2013, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to Ching Jiang Fisheries Products, Inc., following an inspection from June 18 to June 24, 2013. The inspection revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation, 21 CFR Part 123, specifically concerning imported fish and fishery products under 21 CFR 123.12.

The FDA found that the firm failed to implement an affirmative step to ensure imported frozen Pacific Cod Fillets, frozen Arrowtooth Flounder Fillets, and frozen Alaskan Pollock Fillets were processed in accordance with 21 CFR 123.12(a)(2)(ii). Additionally, the firm lacked product specifications designed to ensure these imported products were not injurious to health or processed under insanitary conditions, violating 21 CFR 123.12(a)(2)(i).

These violations render the firm's frozen Pacific Cod Fillets, frozen Arrowtooth Flounder Fillets, and frozen Alaskan Pollock Fillets adulterated under Section 402(a)(4) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. § 342(a)(4)).
