FDA WARNING_LETTER - Laughing Giraffe Organics - November 30, 2014

The FDA reviewed Laughing Giraffe Organics' Pineapple Snakaroons product labels in November 2014 and found violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) and 21 CFR Part 101.

The Pineapple Snakaroons product is misbranded under section 403(r)(1)(A) of the Act because it bears unauthorized nutrient content claims. Specifically: 1. The claim "HEALTHY EVERYDAY SNACK!" in connection with "nutrient-rich," "high in fiber," and "great source of healthy fats" is an implied nutrient content claim. However, the product contains 7g of saturated fat per 22g serving, exceeding the 1g per RACC and 15% of calories from saturated fat limits required for a "healthy" claim under 21 CFR 101.65(d)(2). 2. The claim "high in fiber" is used, but the product contains 2g of fiber per 22g serving (3g per 30g RACC), which is 12% of the DRV, falling below the 20% required for a "high" claim under 21 CFR 101.54(b)(1). 3.
