FDA WARNING_LETTER - Milo's Poultry Farms, LLC - September 10, 2024

On May 22, 2025, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to Mr. Bontrager, Owner of a shell egg farm and processing facility in Bonduel, WI, following a joint inspection with WDATCP from August 15 to September 10, 2024. The inspection was part of a *Salmonella Enteritidis* (SE) multi-state outbreak investigation.

The inspection revealed SE in environmental samples from the poultry house and processing facility, with Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) confirming genetic identity to the outbreak strain. Shell eggs from the farm also tested positive for SE. These findings indicate an inadequate SE prevention plan and implementation.

Violations of the Shell Egg Regulation (21 CFR Part 118) and the FD&C Act were cited. Specifically, the facility failed to implement a written SE prevention plan addressing required biosecurity measures (e.g., visitor control, cross-contamination prevention, employee bird ownership), and adequate rodent and fly monitoring/control. Debris providing pest harborage was also observed. These conditions render the shell eggs adulterated under section 402(a)(4) of the FD&C Act.

The FDA acknowledged the company's voluntary recall, cessation of processing operations, holding of shell eggs, and depopulation of the poultry house. While corrective actions were initiated, including cleaning, disinfection, and employee training, the FDA remains concerned about the adequacy
