FDA WARNING_LETTER - Bragg Live Food - December 01, 2014

On March 4, 2015, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to Bragg Live Food Products, Inc. regarding their Bragg Healthy Vinaigrette product. The FDA reviewed the product label in July 2014 and the company's website (www.bragg.com) in December 2014, concluding that the product is misbranded under section 403 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) [21 U.S.C. § 343] and 21 CFR Part 101.

The product is misbranded because it bears unauthorized nutrient content claims. Specifically, the product name "Bragg Healthy Vinaigrette" and the claim "[s]erving health worldwide since 1912" are used in connection with "Contains No Added Salt" and "Contains No Trans Fat." However, the product contains 1.5g of saturated fat per serving, exceeding the 1g limit for a "low saturated fat" food required to use "healthy" or "health" claims per 21 CFR 101.65(d)(2).

Additionally, the "No Added Salt" claim is used, but the label fails to include the required statement "not a sodium free food" or "not for control of sodium in the diet," as the product contains sodium, violating 21 CFR 101.6
